The suspect in the mass murder at Fort Hood in Texas stopped by a convenience store just hours before the shooting, wearing traditional Islamic robes, according to the store owner, who described Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan as a regular customer who had spoken of his opposition to his scheduled overseas deployment.

According to CNN reporters who discussed a video of the suspect, the store owner confirmed Hasan had spoken of his concern over being placed in a situation where he might have to shoot at "fellow Muslims."

The report said the store owner tried to allay Hasan's concerns, telling him there are "bad guys" overseas, too.

CNN reported the officer came into the store regularly for coffee and hash browns and sometimes joked with the owner about marriage.

The store owner also said Hasan spoke some Arabic but could not carry a conversation in the language.
