A poll on talk-radio host Michael Savage’s website, MichaelSavage.com, shows 96 percent of respondents disagree with a Bush administration proposal to make legal the millions of illegal aliens currently residing in the U.S.
Last week, Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge told a town hall meeting in Miami, Fla., that the U.S. should give illegals legal status.
“The bottom line is, as a country we have to come to grips with the presence of 8 to 12 million illegals, afford them some kind of legal status some way, but also as a country decide what our immigration policy is and then enforce it,” Ridge said.
While the Savage poll, like virtually all Internet surveys, is unscientific, it suggests a high level of outrage over any sort of amnesty program for those who have entered the U.S. illegally. The question posed is: “Should we legalize illegal aliens.” The site indicates 1,212,893 votes have been recorded since Dec. 10, with 1,170,243 “no” votes compared to just 42,650 “yes” votes.
Ridge told meeting participants in Miami: “I’m not saying make them citizens, because they violated the law to get here. So you don’t reward that type of conduct by turning over a citizenship certificate. You determine how you can legalize their presence, then, as a country, you make a decision that from this day forward, from this day forward, this is the process of entry, and if you violate that process of entry we have the resources to cope with it.”
Savage is the author of “The Enemy Within,” which is available exclusively through WorldNetDaily’s online store until it is released to major bookstores late this month. The book currently is No. 6 on Amazon.com’s list of top-selling not-yet-published books.
“The Michael Savage Show” is the fourth most listened-to talk radio show in America with an average of 8-10 million listeners each week on over 330 stations, in syndication with the Talk Radio Network.
