The Christian Film and Television Commission will host its annual Movieguide Awards on March 24, honoring the movies and television shows that best uphold Christian morals and values.
The event, which is the centerpiece of the commission’s 12th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to Hollywood, will be held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, Calif., and will be taped for later telecast on PAX TV.
Dr. Ted Baehr founded the Christian Film and Television Commission in 1978 and established its purpose as “redeeming the values of the entertainment industry according to biblical principals.” Baehr’s publication, Movieguide: A Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment, reviews Hollywood films from a Christian perspective, providing ratings for families with children while supplying information for discerning adult viewer.
In announcing this year’s event, the commission stated, “The Movieguide Awards continues to present a symbol of excellence and merit to the films, television productions, producers, directors, writers, studio executives and creative talent that best extol moral values and Christian principals while in the pursuit of entertainment.”
Hosting the awards program will be “Entertainment Tonight” weekend anchor Mark Steines and his wife, television personality and former Miss America Leanza Cornett.
Grammy Award-winning singer Rebecca St. James will be a featured musical artist on the show. In recent weeks, St. James, an Australian-born Christian singer, has been a guest speaker at the White House, received a 2004 Dove Award nomination for Best Female Artist and was in New York for television guest appearances on “Fox News Magazine,” “Hannity and Colmes” and “Fox & Friends.”
“Dr. Baehr and everyone associated with the 2004 presentation of the Movieguide Awards are very pleased to have celebrities of this caliber participate in our telecast,” commented Susan Wales, media representative for The Christian Film and Television Commission. “Each of them, on a national level, has represented Christian and family values that uphold the same strong guidelines we ascribe to.”
Baehr is a regular commentator on “Joseph Farah’s WorldNetDaily RadioActive” each Friday. He discusses the latest weekend entertainment offerings from a family-oriented perspective.
