Judge John Roberts |
How was the name of Supreme Court nominee John Roberts kept secret from the media?
That was the question posed by talk-show host Rush Limbaugh to Vice President Dick Cheney today on Limbaugh's national radio program.
"The president likes that," said Cheney, who noted a small group of people working on potential candidates kicked into high gear as soon as Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announced her retirement. "It's been on a very close-hold basis, that's the way the president wanted it done."
"[There's] just a little extra added pleasure being able to pull it off," Cheney added.
Roberts' nomination has been the subject of analysis across America today.
Conservative pundit Ann Coulter has raised some eyebrows in her column suggesting Roberts is similar to Justice David Souter.
But Limbaugh disagreed with her analysis, noting Roberts worked in the Reagan White House.
"He's got too much of a conservative pedigree that can be traced," said Limbaugh.
Limbaugh also predicted liberals would put up a strong fight to prevent the confirmation of Roberts.
"It would be sophistry to think the libs are going to lie down on this," said Limbaugh. "They'd do whatever they have to [in order] to keep Bush from getting the people he wants."
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani also weighed on the selection of Roberts during the program.
"I worked with him at the beginning of his career," Giuliani said. "This is a terrific choice. He's superbly qualified."
