In another reminder of the proliferation of Russian nuclear material on the black market, two men were arrested near Istanbul trying to sell 173 grams of Russian enriched uranium to undercover Turkish police.

Turkish authorities released no information about who the men were, how they got the uranium or what its intended destination was.

The pair was arrested Tuesday in the town of Harem and charged with smuggling nuclear materials.

When the Soviet Union collapsed, much of the nation’s nuclear stockpiles – of weapons and raw materials – fell into the hands of black marketeers who peddled it to the highest bidders.

As WND has reported, this is how Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaida terrorist network acquired nuclear weapons and materials to produce them.

For 10 years, al-Qaida has planned to use these weapons in a nuclear terrorist attack on the U.S. The plan is dubbed “American Hiroshima.”
