A 37-year-old Arkansas teacher is slated to be in court today to face a charge she had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old boy.
Deanna Bobo, a married mother of five children from Greenwood, Ark., is accused of felony sexual assault with the teenager on two occasions.
Bobo is a special education teacher at Raymond E. Wells Junior High School and was placed on paid suspension Nov. 14.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the intercourse took place twice off-campus during non-school hours in February and March.
Police recorded a telephone conversation between the student and Bobo last Wednesday, during which she denied having sex with the teen, noting she was his friend who tried to help him and that nothing happened between them.
The Gazette recounted the dialogue:
“My job, my marriage, my whole life is in jeopardy right now,” Bobo told the student according to a transcript of the conversation.
“Why?” he asked.
“Because I’m going to jail,” she responded.
A circuit judge ordered Bobo to avoid any contact with the boy and his family as a condition of her release.
Just yesterday, in perhaps the highest profile case of a teacher accused of having sex with one of her students, 25-year-old Debra Lafave changed her plea from not guilty by reason of insanity to guilty.
Lafave, a teacher at Greco Middle School in the Tampa area, had been charged with having both oral sex and full intercourse with the boy on campus in June 2004. Her trial had been slated to begin Dec. 5.
“I accept full responsibility for my actions,” Lafave told the court.
Though she could have received decades behind bars, Lafave will serve three years under house arrest, and seven years probation.
As WorldNetDaily reported earlier this month, school officials in the Tampa area are dealing with another sex scandal, as a 28-year old teacher is accused of having an 18-month lesbian relationship with a teenage girl.
Jaymee Wallace, a math instructor and coach of the girls’ varsity basketball team at Wharton High School in Tampa, is facing 15 years in prison if convicted on felony charges of lewd and lascivious battery.
