It's all but decided even though the final vote hasn't been taken. Unless, of course, the enemy Democrats decide to push their luck with more delaying tactics.
Yes, they are enemies, not only of the process, but of the Constitution and this country. They ignore the big picture as they perpetuate their unseemly attacks against people and the system, to say nothing of the nation.

Judge Samuel Alito stands ready to be named, officially, a justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. It's the highest honor any lawyer, any citizen, can attain in the area of the law and the judiciary.
The Supreme Court is the part of our government that keeps this ship of state on an even keel. Indeed, it's the responsibility of the Supreme Court to help us keep our form of government and survive as a free nation as conceived by our founding fathers.
They knew it wouldn't be easy, but I doubt they could have forseen the depths of corrosiveness to which the Senate committee hearings would descend.
I doubt, in their wildest dreams, they could have imagined the likes of Ted Kennedy, Diane Feinstein, Chuck Schumer, Joe Biden and the others spewing their vile innuendoes in tones of voice that would put the Inquisition to shame
The Founding Fathers might not have imagined it, but that's what we have and it gets worse each time a conservative is nominated to the high court. It was awful enough with Clarence Thomas. It was painful to see the hyenas piling on Robert Bork. We saw the attempts with Harriet Miers, but she got out before the full mob was launched. John Roberts was the next target and now we've seen the assassination squad do their duty against Samuel Alito.
Duty is right. While many news outlets and newspapers omitted the exchange, the questioning of Judge Alito was following a script.
It was made patently clear as Ted Kennedy was reading from an article in the magazine of the Concerned Alumni of Princeton. He was enumerating some statements Democrats hoped would paint the candidate as a racist, sexist, homophobic pig.
Keep in mind, Alito wasn't mentioned in the article, didn't write the article, didn't remember ever seeing the article. He had only, at one point, been a member of the group, which was organized to prevent lowering entrance standards at the university and to protest banning ROTC from campus.
At one point, Kennedy paused, and from across the room, Diane Feinstein prompted, "Finish the line." When he didn't say what she wanted, she prompted specifically, "... and now here come women."
That did it. The cat was out of the bag.
It's all an act, planned, scripted and choreographed – from the words to the nastiness to the sneers to the props – Schumer holding the Constitution, Biden wearing the Princeton cap. They have the routine down pat and it's more than disgusting, it's shameful.
Who knew the path to the Supreme Court would be like running the gantlet? Who knew that a man of brilliance, accomplishment, dedication and honesty would have to be the target of a battering ram of people who, quite honestly, aren't qualified intellectually or morally to polish his shoes.
Oh, they think they are. They are senators after all.
Really? Let's have some honesty and answers to questions about what really happened when Mary Jo Kopechne drowned in Ted Kennedy's car in Chappaquiddick Pond. Why did a married senator leave a drinking party with a young, unmarried girl? Why did he take 10 hours to report the car sinking? Why have his lips been shut tight ever since and her family's silence bought?
It's known that Ted Kennedy paid others to take his exams at Harvard. It's known that Joe Biden plagiarized campaign speeches during his run for president. It's known that Diane Feinstein's husband has close business dealings with China – where are the probing questions, as well those concerning her legislative and land-use votes, to say nothing of her support for abortion?
Let's have Chuck Schumer reveal the influence of leftist hate-mongers and the abortion lobby on his votes, reflected in his despicable, smarmy venom anytime he faces a camera.
Let's have all of them stop using abortion as a sledge-hammer as though it's the only issue of importance facing us. It's interesting that the very people who insist the Constitution is "a living breathing document and is constantly changing," refuse to even recognize that Roe v. Wade might someday face change. They ignore that other high-court decisions have been changed or modified. For them, the only immutable truth is the right to kill babies.
Shame on them. Sad for us. Terminal for those unborn children.
Judge Samuel Alito is a man of patience, class and intelligence. He knows his role as a judge and knows the responsibility of a Supreme Court Justice. I couldn't ask for a better candidate to influence the fate of our country with his vote. That is the magnitude of nominations like this.
Thank you, George Bush for naming him. Thank you, Samuel Alito for showing real class.
