If they love others, people of faith and values are called to be forever vigilant. As God tells them in Ezekiel 33:7-9:
As for you, son of man, I have made you watchman over the house of Israel. When you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me. If I say to the wicked: Wicked one, you will surely die, but you do not speak out to warn him about his way, that person will die for his iniquity, yet I will hold you responsible for his blood. But if you warn a wicked person to turn from his way and he doesn't turn from it, he will die for his iniquity, but you will have saved your life.
TRENDING: To DEI for
These sound like tough words: Are they? No! If my daughter was driving off a cliff and I did not warn her when I could do so, then I am responsible. God is calling us to do what is most loving – warn others before they go off the cliff.
When people take seriously their need for vigilance, societies have prospered. When they have compromised with wicked people, societies have drifted into paganism, war, famine and destruction. Often this compromise is overt, such as the churches that flew the Nazi flag in Germany. But, just as often, it's covert, such as the people who Solzhenitsyn chastised in the Soviet Union for not speaking out against the evils of Stalinism and communism.
Dan Brown, author of "The Da Vinci Code," has specifically referenced the Satanic sex ceremony in Stanley Kubrick's movie "Eyes Wide Shut" as being an accurate portrayal of what he was getting at in the pagan, Satanic sexual ritual of "The Da Vinci Code." This is the heart of the gospel with a small "g" of "The Da Vinci Code." The only glimpse of eternity in Brown's book is a brief moment of ecstasy in the sex act with a temple prostitute. Brown also strips Jesus of His divinity and promotes Gnostic, hereditary elitism as being the path to a momentary salvation. This is a pathetic diminishing of the real Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is also extolling man's baser instincts.
Many uninformed young people have seized upon Brown's pagan vision, even those who are the children of Christian leaders, just as the Hitler youth seized on Hitler's pagan visions in Germany.
Meanwhile, a few leaders in Christian organizations have capitulated to Dan Brown's pagan vision. Some have even gone so far to say: Read the book and watch the movie. When they have done neither and have no idea what the "The Da Vinci Code" contains! In other words, we do not care enough or know enough to bother to try to stop you from driving off a cliff, so just do it!
While telling their flock to pay the wolves to eat them, some have rationalized their callousness (sometimes motivated by wanting to sell their books and DVDs), by saying that the truth will come out in the end. Yes, God tells us the end of the story, but in Germany the lies of Hitler led to the death of millions before the truth triumphed. (Remember, Hitler was the proponent of the Big Lie.)
This wrongheaded thinking is faulty on several grounds. It presumes, for instance, in line with the silliness of Rousseauean Romanticism, that man is basically rational and good, while the Bible tells us that no man is good and all men and women need the salvation that is only available in Jesus Christ. This same fallacy led people to say that democracy would work in the Palestinian areas of Israel, when, in fact, the majority voted for terrorism.
Recently, a Christian college believing this false, anti-biblical dictum hosted a debate between homosexuals and evangelicals. The homosexuals appealed to emotion and the heart, the evangelicals appealed to the Bible and the head. After being exposed to both sides of the argument, a student told his friend that he now supported homosexuality and may even be an incipient homosexual.
If the idea that the truth will triumph in the short run was valid, why don't we allow adolescents to hear evangelicals debate prostitutes, racists, or have them read "Mein Kampf," Playboy, etc. Perhaps, the pastors who are telling the sheep to watch the pagan sex orgy of the "The Da Vinci Code" (that should have been R-rated, by the way, if it had followed the book) so they can witness to pagans, should abandon the Bible and have them watch "Deep Throat" next week to witness to sex addicts, or watch "Kinsey" to witness to pedophiles.
Well, for anyone who does that, as God says in Ezekiel, you may get the praise of men, but you are responsible for all those young people who are lost – even if it is only one who is corrupted by the wicked message in "The Da Vinci Code," a message which not only says that there is no salvation in Jesus Christ, but also that the closest anyone can get to eternity is to have – in Dan Brown's words – Satanic, pagan sex with a plump, old prostitute while the members of the cult chant and watch.
Instead of telling people to read the book and see the movie (or telling people to listen to what these pro-homosexual groups have to say) we should be urging people not to read the book, not to see the movie and not to listen to the evil homosexual hedonist. We can, and should, follow this up by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which tells us why Dan Brown's paganism is evil.
As for us at MOVIEGUIDE?, we state unequivocally that the message of "The Da Vinci Code" is abhorrent and no one should read the book or watch the movie. As the mass media is apt to say on politically correct issues: Just say no.
