In the last 100 years, European nations have seen several attempts at centralization under a transnational, humanist state. Although Hitler and Stalin failed to establish a new thousand-year reign over a united and submitted Europe, the European Parliament, working through the mechanism of economics and taxation, is having a tremendous impact in changing the culture of Europe. That is the reality.
Within the European Parliament, there are many so-called progressive forces that may not be tolerated on a national level but seem to have a tremendous influence in the Parliament.
The good news, however, is that there are also very strong Christians who are trying to move the Parliament in a more federalized way to a more Christian civilization. These groups asked me to speak on protecting the innocent from media addiction and moral/spiritual addiction to media sex and violence.
What was interesting about the talk and the opportunity is the fact that more people showed up than expected, and the talk was warmly received. Furthermore, several initiatives were proposed for exploration, including restricting the advertising of so-called adult movies so they aren’t marketed to children, instituting a new entertainment and media code of ethics, spreading media and cultural wisdom, imposing a tax on violent and immoral media and so forth.
These initiatives are all at a very rudimentary stage, but there’s great enthusiasm and a great expectation that some move will be made to protect children from the tsunami of filth in the mass media.
Thus, it is clear that all is not lost at the European Parliament. After all, where darkness abounds, grace also abounds, and people of faith and values can have a tremendous impact.
Thus, the average citizen doesn’t have to wait on the sidelines. He and his family can decide to take an active role in protecting children from media terrorism and moving Europe toward a more Christian civilization of faith and values.
Movieguide? has the tools and connections in the United States and Europe, as well as in the worldwide mass media of entertainment, to accomplish this, but we could use the help, including word-of-mouth, of every concerned citizen everywhere. The future of our children and grandchildren – and the free world – hangs in the balance!
