Albert Einstein was a pretty smart guy. He came up with the theory of relativity and a formula we all know by heart: E=mc?. I’m not a scientist, but I do know that not everything is relative. Like truth, for example. We can debate it all we want, but truth remains constant. It’s not dependant on whether people believe it or not. It doesn’t change with opinion polls. It’s black and white and so crystal clear that it’s described by our nation’s founders as “self-evident.” Like how all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The good news is there are a lot of people who still believe that, people who know when those basic truths are violated: like when innocent children are dismembered before their birthday and when marriage between a man and a woman is redefined to mean something else. The good news is people who know right from wrong … vote. The bad news is two-thirds of them just looked on and did nothing in the 2004 election. Einstein said it this way:

The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.

Last week, I wrote about the Values Voters Debate in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Sept. 17. I mentioned that even with two-thirds (19 million) of the evangelical Christian eligible voters sitting on the bench in the last presidential election, we “values voters” still made up the largest voting block in the country – 36 percent (over a third) of Bush’s voters.

That third was up 10 percent from 2000. What would happen if we increased it by another 10 or 20 or 30 percent? We’d have a formula for victory. And you don’t have to be an Einstein to see it: E=mv? Election = Majority of Value Voters. That’s all we need to win the election. To deliver the majority of the values voters.

If, unlike 2006, we brought another third with us to the polls, we would be the ones who decide the election. But for that to happen, our people need to be excited about who’s on the ticket. Perhaps the most accurate polling firm, Rasmussen, just reported its reasons why “Each leading GOP candidate will not win the party nomination.” It’s up for grabs, and it’s up to us to grab it.

And that may be far easier than you may think. While values voters made up 36 percent of the president’s vote in the last presidential election, there were only 7.2 percent of Americans who bothered to vote in the primaries through March 2, 2004. With such low primary turnout, if just a fraction of the values voters come out to vote in the primaries, WE will pick the candidate who will win the nomination.

How do we make that happen? I have four ideas from which to start:

  1. Join in a 40-day fast beginning Wednesday, Aug. 8. I’ve never asked for this before, but I’m asking now: Join me in a 40-day fast beginning tomorrow. Whether you give up dessert, television or your favorite activity or food, we need to let God know we’re serious about restoring righteousness to our land. Pray He uses the V? Debate to reveal His choice.

  2. Give us your ideas for the V? Debate Parties at [email protected]. This is where people invite their friends and neighbors on Monday, Sept. 17 to watch the debate. We’ll need a party pack that includes voter registration forms, a debate scorecard and perhaps some discussion questions in the form of a game. We’ll also need a theme: While many watch “Monday Night Football,” we’ll have our eye on “The Real Game.” We need something to inspire people to quit watching game films, criticizing from the sidelines and doing push ups – and actually suit up and “take the field.” That’s just one idea. Perhaps a contest for the most creative V? video posted on YouTube and Others have suggested “HWJV?” stickers – How would Jesus Vote? Maybe another prize for the most registered voters. Have ideas? Send them to [email protected]!

  3. Send the questions you most want asked at the debate to [email protected]. Thanks for those who’ve already sent them, they’re great!

  4. Donate to the ValuesVoter Debate effort! We really need your help! Go to and help pave the way for the debate that God could use to reveal His pick and change the course of history!

Don’t “look on and do nothing”; remember the formula: E=mv? – Election = Majority of Value Voters. Our values are based in the truth, our eye is on the Supreme Court, and it is now “fourth and goal.” One more judge. One more president. One more chance. The question is: will you take it?
