Bucks for Huck

Just another reminder that I write this column (like all of them) as an individual, not as the president of Faith2Acton, radio host, or as a member of the Values Voter Presidential Debate Committee.

You’re going to get fundraising letters next December from a lot of organizations that say they want to end abortion. They’re going to tell you how bad it is and how much worse it’s going to get before they ask you for a lot of money. It’s not going to matter how big a check you send any of them if you don’t act now.

We have one chance to get everything we’ve been working and praying for in the last 34 years … and that chance has finally come.

We no longer have to answer hypothetical questions about whether we should vote for the one who hates our beliefs (Giuliani) versus the one who adamantly worked against our every belief until about 10 minutes ago (Romney). There is now a solidly pro-life, pro-marriage “tier one” candidate by the name of Gov. Mike Huckabee. According to the University of Iowa Hawkeye Poll, Huckabee has surged into a tie with Giuliani for second place in Iowa behind Mitt Romney.

But what does Romney have that Huckabee doesn’t? Besides more positions than a Craftmatic adjustable bed, money.

The only thing standing in the way of Mike Huckabee being the nominee is cash. I just went to www.mikehuckabee.com and made a thousand dollar donation. It seems like a lot of money, but a thousand dollars now, when we have a chance to win, is more than a $100,000 later when our one chance is forever gone. In less than a minute you can make the difference between doing everything you can and forever wishing you had.

And people are starting to get it. The Huckabee campaign just announced with one day to go, they are less than $160,000 away from beating their online fundraising for July, August and September combined.

Anyone who knows me knows my motivation: I’m not looking for a job or an appointment; I’m not on anyone’s payroll, and I don’t have a campaign title; I just want to stop the killing. I want to see children protected, and the Supreme Court is the only way I know to do that. The prize is the Supreme Court and the time is now. But some have asked, what if Huckabee forgets us once he’s elected? If Gov. Huckabee never takes another one of my calls, if he disavows that he ever knew me and I don’t get invited to the White House Christmas party, but he gives us the judges we need, I will have no regrets in supporting him now.

The maximum donation an individual can give is $2,300, ($4,600 for married couples) – and when you consider what it can do, $2,300 isn’t a lot of money. For starters, it can shield my life’s work of passing parental consent, the Woman’s Right to Know Law, fetal homicide, abortion funding restrictions, and the Partial Birth Abortion Ban from being wiped off the books (in all 50 states) with the stroke of a pen held by Hillary Clinton, a cosponsor of the so-called “Freedom of Choice Act.” If Hillary wins, unborn children lose every law we’ve put in place to protect them in the last 34 years. She is also a cosponsor of the hate crimes bill that would send most outspoken opponents of the homosexual agenda to jail. (By the way, now’s a good time to call President Bush to make sure he vetoes that horrible bill: 202-456-1414.)

We need someone who can beat Hillary. And the largest voting block in the country isn’t going to get mobilized for either pro-abortion, anti-marriage Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney whose court appointments were abysmal and who changed his position on life, marriage, gun control, immigration and pornography just before running. Coincidence? Pleeeease.

To win, we’re going to need someone who can do more than mobilize the Republican party – we’re going to need to reach the Reagan Democrats and union workers. Interestingly, Mike Huckabee was the only Republican in 119 years to get the endorsement of one of the most politically active trade unions, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Not bad for a right-to-work guy.

And the crossover vote? As I told the Washington Times yesterday: Do you know another Republican besides Huckabee who got 48 percent of the African-American vote? Add to that energized, mobilized values voters, and there is no one better than Huckabee to take on Hillary.

My eye is on the prize – the Supreme Court – and Huckabee is the only guy in the race that we know will give it to us. Everything is on the line, whether we win it all or lose it all. Yet, during this time of moral crisis, many of our leaders are silent. Others just throw rocks. Dante put it this way:

“The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in a time of moral crisis, remain neutral.”

I’m going to keep sending donations until I reach the $2,300 maximum so I will have a clear conscience when my children and grandchildren ask me the question I know will come. That question? “Where were you when they were killing babies?” I want to answer: “I did everything I could to stop it.”

If you will vote now with your pocketbook to help elect the only guy we know for certain will give us the judges we need on the bench, we can have a much better answer. When our children and grandchildren ask us: “Where were you when they were killing babies?” we can reply: WE WERE THE ONES WHO STOPPED IT.

One more election, one more judge. Everything we’ve worked for is within our reach. Don’t let our last chance pass us by. Multiply next December’s pro-life donations by more than a hundredfold: Go to www.mikehuckabee.com now and vote for life.

Another reminder that Huckabee is not only right on life, marriage and the courts: At the Values Voter Presidential Debate Sept. 17, he answered the pro-family movement’s toughest questions 100 percent right – including the one from Phyllis Schlafly on amnesty and the North American Union. Take a look again at the guy your donation will put into office along with the judges we’ve been waiting for on the court. Read the transcript of the debate.
