Even though Barack Obama is claiming the Democratic nomination for the presidency, radio host Rush Limbaugh is urging people to contact Hillary Clinton about staying in the race.
Limbaugh has been running his “Operation Chaos,” an effort designed to cause havoc among Democrats by suggesting Republicans temporarily register as Democrats to vote for Clinton and prolong the process.
During today’s analysis of the primary season’s conclusion, the broadcaster urged listeners to go to Hillary’s website and offer their personal advice, after Clinton herself requested such during her own speech last night.
“Now, I want you to be polite,” said Limbaugh. “I don’t want any snide comments, and I know that people have already done that, but I want those of you who are part of this audience to say whatever is in your heart to Mrs. Clinton about her effort to continue here, within the spirit of Operation Chaos, keeping chaos alive. Mrs. Clinton did everything last night but thank me for helping to make this current situation possible.”
Offering his own opinion, Limbaugh suggested the former first lady will not be pulling out of contention.
“These are the Clintons,” he said. “They are never going away, folks. No matter what happens here, they aren’t going away.”
The New York senator made reference to her future plans last night, but did not get specific, stating, “The question is, ‘Where do we go from here?’ and given how far we’ve come, and where we need to go as a party, it’s a question I don’t take lightly. This has been a long campaign, and I will be making no decisions tonight.”
Limbaugh said Hillary isn’t quitting just yet because “she’s going to get something.”
“She’s going to get the vice presidency. She is going to get a Supreme Court nomination. She is going to get appointed to head up the Department of Health and Human Services to run Obama’s health care plan. She’s going to get something,” he said. “She might even in her mind still think she can get the nomination because of some unknown things that might pop out there. But that’s why she hasn’t conceded, she’s not going to concede.”
Meanwhile, longtime Hillary supporter Lanny Davis has announced a campaign to have Obama select Mrs. Clinton as his running mate.
He’s promoting a new website called Women for Fair Politics, where people can sign a petition and voice their opinion.
In an open letter to Obama, Davis wrote:
“We know this is ultimately your decision on who is to be your running mate. But with the greatest respect, we ask you to select Senator Clinton in recognition of the more than 17 million Democrats who supported her at the polls and who, in combination with your more than 17 million supporters, would form the base of a successful presidential campaign in the November election.”
