Fast and pray until Christmas Day

All I want for Christmas is my life and my freedom. Two-thirds of America doesn’t want this horrible health-care bill, but it’s going to take all of us doing everything we can to stop it –including using a secret weapon they don’t have.
The weapon we have that they don’t is prayer and fasting. Sure, they use the name of Jesus and all, but it’s usually not in the form of a prayer. And while some fighting for taxpayer-funded child-killing even go through the motions of “loving God,” Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). And for the record, “Thou shalt not kill” came in the top Ten Commandments at No. 6.
We need to act and pray like our lives and the lives of millions of children depend on it. Because they do. So it may mean passing up some Christmas cookies or missing your favorite shows, but one thing’s for sure, I don’t want to wake up on Christmas morning thinking I didn’t do everything I could to stop this lethal legislation.
But Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., is going to feel worse than that. If this thing passes, and we start funding abortions after 30 years of the Hyde Amendment preventing it, he’s going to know he’s the one responsible.
As Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., pointed out on my Faith2Action program yesterday, even Sen. Nelson’s Nebraska counterpart, Sen. Mike Johanns, called his actions “unforgivable.”
That’s despite the news that claims abortion funding came out of the Senate bill. Not so. Connie Hair pointed out in yesterday’s Human Event’s column that the folks watching the votes aren’t buying the sound bites:
NEBRASKA RIGHT TO LIFE: “Senator Nelson had a chance to ensure that the longstanding principle of the Hyde Amendment against federal funding of abortion with narrow exceptions would be placed in the Senate health-care legislation. He dashed any hope of that with his late-night agreement with Senators Reid, Boxer and Schumer on unacceptable language that he claimed would address pro-life concerns.”
NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE COMMITTEE: “The manager’s amendment is light years removed from the Stupak-Pitts Amendment that was approved by the House of Representatives on Nov. 8 by a bipartisan vote of 240-194. The new abortion language solves none of the fundamental abortion-related problems with the Senate bill, and it actually creates some new abortion-related problems.”
Here’s the question we need to be asking Sen. “Sellout” Nelson: “Just how much is the life of an unborn child worth?” How about millions of lives? Ask him why he threw unborn babies under the bus for perks for his state. I, for one, think he should know what we think of that. His number is: 202-224-6551. His district numbers are: Kearney: 308-293-5818, South Sioux City: 402-209-3595, Lincoln: 402-441-4600, Omaha: 402-391-3411, and Scottsbluff: 308-631-7614.
I don’t think his vote is “unforgivable,” provided he votes against cloture to defeat the bill before Christmas.
I know Harry Reid and Barack Obama’s meetings with Sen. Nelson no doubt sounded more like Gov. Rod Blagojevich trying to sell a Senate seat. The real crime is that no charges will be filed.
But what Nelson (and the other senators) did was worse than Bernie Madoff – who only stole about $50 billion. Government-run health care is going to cost between $2.5 and 3 trillion, according to the Congressional Budget Office, which underestimated the cost of Medicaid by a factor of 11. They said it would cost $1 billion, and it cost $11 billion. If that record holds, brace yourself for a $22-33 trillion price tag. It doesn’t seem to matter to the Democrats in Washington how much more debt we ring up – we can’t pay for any of the stuff they’ve already passed.
But this time it’s not just the money, it’s the disabled, the elderly and all of us who will lose, along with the defenseless babies who will now be killed in greater numbers because those abortions will be “free” to expectant moms – funded by each one of us.
Once you’ve called “Bribe-taker Ben,” then, call your two senators – and visit them over the Christmas break. Then call Sens. Jim Webb, D-Va., 202-224-4024 and Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark. Let me look them up for you; it’s Christmas, after all.
Sen. Blanche L. Lincoln
2nd Term (2005-2010) (What do you know? She’s up for re-election next year!)
912 West Fourth Street

Then call the man who’s sitting on perhaps the hottest seat in the U.S. House: Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich.: 202-225-4735. His district office numbers are below; I’d call them all. Thank him for his stand and ask him not to sell out the babies like Sen. “Soon-to-be-in working-in-the-private-sector” Nelson.
Bart Stupak district offices: Petoskey: 231-348-0657, Marquette: 906-228-3700, Alpena: 989-356-0690, Escanaba: 906-786-4504, Houghton:906-482-1371, Crystal Falls: 906-875-3751, West Branch:989-345-2258, e-mail.
But this battle is not over. There are still votes in the Senate on this lethal legislation where a 60-vote margin is needed – that’s why we must pick off another vote – to save our own lives and the lives of countless children.
Even when you’re standing in line at the mall, use that time to pray, and put the Capitol Switchboard number on speed dial: 202-225-3121.
Then call and visit them in the district offices – all of which are listed by state in the “Coast2Coast” section of Faith2Action.org. There is also still time to send those pink slips by Fed Ex at www.SendCongressAPinkSlip.com.
But most important, fast and pray until Christmas day. It’s the only way to keep our lives and our freedom this Christmas.
