Voters delivering verdict on terror trials

The groundswell of opposition to holding terror trials in New York for confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and several of his co-conspirators appears to be gaining traction.
The Obama administration had announced plans to hold civilian trials for the terror suspects in New York City, literally blocks from where thousands of Americans died in the terror attacks of 9/11.
But a long list of opponents has been compiled, and just days ago, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced his opposition to the proposal.
Then today, Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C., proposed legislation that would cut off funding that the U.S. Justice Department, run by Obama pick Attorney General Eric Holder, would need to hold those trials in civilian court.
Graham earlier tried a similar measure and lost on a 54-45 vote. But the political climate has shifted and part of the awareness of the situation can been credited to the website called 911TerrorTrialTest.com.
“Since day one, polls have shown that the Obama administration’s decision to give U.S. constitutional rights to foreign enemy combatants is tremendously unpopular with Americans,” said the site’s creator, author Brad O’Leary, who also publishes “The O’Leary Report” political newsletter, and has authored “The Audacity of Deceit” and “Shut Up, America.”
“We created this website so all Americans could let their senators and congressman know how they feel about the terror trial issue.”
At www.911TerrorTrialTest.com visitors can answer seven questions regarding the 9/11 terror trials, and then click to automatically send their answers, as well as a message of their choice, to their elected officials. The questions include:
“The site is designed to keep a tally and record how people from each congressional district and state feel about the 9/11 terror trial issue,” said O’Leary. “So as legislation begins to move in Congress, we can let senators and congressmen know exactly where their constituents stand.”

This feature is important, O’Leary points out, because the Obama administration is currently conducting a search for a new location to hold the 9/11 terror trials. Therefore, voters can use 911TerrorTrialTest.com as a tool to keep their local official from inviting the trials into their city or town.
“A strong majority of Americans want these accused terrorists tried in military tribunals, which is traditionally how we have done it for reasons of national security, cost, and protecting sensitive intelligence,” said O’Leary. “If there was ever a time for Americans to voice their opinion, it is now.”
“Now is the time to let Congress know where you stand, and let the Obama administration know that the war on terror is not an opportunity for liberal social experiments, but is a deadly serious matter with real life and death consequences.”
WND previously reported that a recent Zogby International poll found only 20 percent of American voters “strongly support” Obama’s plan to hold trials in New York. Fifty-three percent “strongly oppose” it. Another 5 percent were “somewhat opposed.”
Opposition has come even from House Armed Services Chairman Ike Skelton, D-Mo., who has said the Obama administration may be making a big mistake by trying foreign enemy combatants in U.S. civilian courts. Skelton is the highest-ranking Democrat to challenge the decision announced several weeks ago by Holder.
Critics contend a civilian trial will give Mohammed and his accomplices a platform for slamming America and bring danger to New York City. Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., warns that such a trial could move New York City “to the top of al-Qaida’s target list.”
