For months you’ve heard about the solemn assembly at the Lincoln Memorial beginning at sunrise on May 1 – May Day: A cry to God for a nation in distress.
But, after all this time, I just found out what May Day is all about.
Rev. George Jaderston on my Faith2Action radio program set me straight when he said something with which I didn’t initially agree: “May Day isn’t about saving America.”
I sat on the other side of the microphone thinking, “Yes it is – and I should know, after all, I’m the one planning it.” I want to save America and God said this is what you’re supposed to do, so that’s what we’re doing.
But he said to me, “It’s not the rewards you seek; it’s the One who gives the rewards.” When you seek God, the rewards come, when you seek only the rewards, don’t expect to get them. He’s right. We’re going to seek God’s face and not just His hand of restoration, blessing, provision and protection.
So, to be clear, on May Day, we’re going to seek the face of God.
How do we do that? Well, to approach His holy hill, the Bible says we need clean hands and a pure heart. We must repent for our individual sins – which include those sins of “omission” – all the things we should have done, but didn’t do. It may take awhile, but personal repentance needs to take place before we ever show up to May Day.
Then, we have to actually meet with Him. The Bible says He inhabits the praise of His people. We have the praise and worship bands already lined up. As we praise Him, He’ll come to meet with us.
Some things, big things – like mountains – only get moved, the Bible says, through prayer and fasting. We have mountain ranges to move, so we’ve called for people to fast from something until May Day to show God just how serious we are.
Here’s the program divided by “mountains” (or areas of influence) we need moved:
Saturday, May 1
6:10-7 a.m.: Praise and worship music (sunrise is 6:10 a.m.)
7-8 a.m.: Opening prayer by Mark Gurley (great-great-grandson of Phineas Gurley, Abraham Lincoln’s pastor), Repentance for the Mountain of the Family
8-9 a.m.: Repentance for the Mountain of Religion – the Church
9-10 a.m.: Repentance for the Mountain of Education
10-11 a.m.: Repentance for the Mountain of Arts & Entertainment
11 a.m.-12 noon: Repentance for the Mountain of Business
Noon-1 p.m.: Repentance for the Mountain of Government
1-1:45 p.m.: Repentance for the Mountain of Media
(Check the entire program at MayDay2010.org.)
Among those praying are Dr. Alan Keyes, Bobby Schindler (Terri Schiavo’s brother), Dutch Sheets, Vision America’s Dr. Rick Scarborough, Pastor Paul Blair, Dr. Jim Garlow (who led the fight to protect marriage in California), Cindy Jacobs, Gen. Jerry Boykin (whose life is depicted in the movie “Black Hawk Down”), Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel, Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America, Tony Perkins of Family Research Council and MovieGuide’s Dr. Ted Baehr who will be flying in to repent for how we’ve assaulted God in Hollywood.
Want God’s favor? Do what God loves – and God loves repentance. That’s why we’re going to repent for everything we know we have ever done to offend Him, not just individually and from the “seven mountains,” but from all 50 states as well. Representatives from all 50 states will be present to repent and remember God’s covenant with every state as evidenced by an acknowledgement of God in every single state constitution.
God also loves Israel. With Faith2Action’s Israel Friendship Project, people across America have sent so many yellow roses of friendship, the nation of Israel is out of yellow roses! We’ve blessed Israel – with nearly 30,000 yellow friendship roses being sent to the prime minister and the people of Israel, they now know America is their friend (no matter what this administration does). As reported by the Jerusalem Post, Prime Minister Netanyahu “deeply appreciates” our stand with him. And because it’s Israel’s 62nd birthday today, we’re extending the Israel Friendship Project through midnight today!
If you send your dozen roses today, we will deliver them to Israeli victims of terror and to the people of Israel as well as a rose and another book – that contains your card of solidarity and friendship to the prime minister himself. Just go to the Faith2Action website before midnight tonight to bless Israel on its birthday with your beautiful bouquet of friendship!
Then, do what matters most: join with us to seek the face of God as we cry out to Him on May Day for our nation in distress. Check the buses and car pools heading there, rent a van or car, whatever you do, be there.
We’re out of solutions, and the elections are seven long months away. This may be the most important action step you will ever take for our country. May Day: a repentant remnant standing in the gap for America. It isn’t our best hope; it’s our only hope.
