Another big talker says: Release birth certificate

Laura Ingraham

One of talk radio’s first ladies, Laura Ingraham, believes Barack Obama was born in the United States and is a legitimate president, but she suggests it wouldn’t hurt him to release his original long-form birth certificate.

That would be among the documents, she said, that should be available to the American public about their president, arguably the most powerful man in the world.

She specifically cited Obama’s college records as among the documents still concealed by him and wondered about his time at Occidental College.

“In the interest of full disclosure, sir, could we please have those records?” she asked.

A minute later, she added, “And of course, you know, all of you are thinking ‘Laura when are you going to say long-form birth certificate.’ Well, long-form …”

Her remarks are on YouTube, with the birth certificate reference about 5:20 into the recording:

The focal point of Ingraham’s commentary was Obama’s lack of transparency, an issue he boasted would be a hallmark of his administration.

A spokesman for Ingraham’s show said the commentary was describing the hypocrisy of the Obama administration.

“[White House press secretary] Robert Gibbs’ insisted that certain organizations should release the names of their donors in the ‘spirit of disclosure.’ We made the point on the show that there are a lot of things the White House could release voluntarily in order to put to rest some of the gaps in the public’s knowledge, including Obama’s college records and papers and the complete White House visitors list.

“The non-release of the president’s long-form birth certificate is another example of the White House not engaging in the spirit of disclosure they desire to force on their political enemies. We included it in our list of examples despite the fact that making it public is unnecessary and irrelevant. Obama was born in the United States and is a legitimate president,” the spokesman said.

He noted the point also was made in the past week by ABC’s Jake Tapper. In an interview with Obama adviser David Axelrod, there was this exchange regarding Axelrod’s insistence that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce release information to prove it was not accepting overseas donations:

TAPPER: But you’re asking the chamber to prove a negative. “Prove that you’re not doing such and such accusation.”

AXELROD: It’s not proving a negative, Jake, because all you have to do to clear up the questions is reveal who your donors are from. The question back to them is why don’t they want to reveal where their money is coming from? I think the answer is, I think if the American people knew where their money was coming from they’d be a lot less apt to listen to the advertising, to read the mail, to respond to the kind of negative campaigns that the Chamber and some of these other organizations are underwriting…

TAPPER: Isn’t that like the whackjobs that tell the president he needs to show them his full long-form birth certificate so he can put to rest the questions that have been raised?

AXELROD: The president’s birth certificate has been available to people.

TAPPER: The long form?

AXELROD: Someone once in the course of this debate about whether we should have a law to force these organizations to disclose where their money is coming from in the campaigns, someone said, and I think they’re right – ‘the only people who want to keep things secret are folks who have something to hide.’ If the chamber doesn’t have anything to hide about these contributions, and I take them at their word that they don’t, then why not disclose? Why not let people see where their money is coming from?

An attorney, Ingraham clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas before launching her radio show in 2001. She is also a bestselling author, as well as a frequent commentator and guest host on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor.” Her books include “The Hillary Trap,” “Shut Up & Sing: How the Elites in Hollywood, Politics and the U.N. are Subverting America” and “Power to the People,” all bestsellers. Her most recent book, released in July, is “The Obama Diaries.”

WND has reported on multiple legal challenges to Obama over his status as a “natural born citizen.” The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”

Some of the lawsuits question whether Obama actually was born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama’s American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.

Other challenges have focused on Obama’s citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.

Further, others question his citizenship by virtue of his attendance in Indonesian schools during his childhood and question on what passport did he travel to Pakistan three decades ago.

Adding fuel to the fire is Obama’s persistent refusal to release documents that could provide answers and his appointment of lawyers to defend against all requests for his documentation.

WND also has reported that among the documentation not yet available for Obama includes his kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, files from his years as an Illinois state senator, his Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and his adoption records.
