Talk is not enough

I talk for a living. Several times during my 25 years in talk radio, I’ve come to the conclusion that the time for talk was over; it was time for action. Today is one of those times.

For those of us working to restore a constitutional republic, a free-market economy and a renewed era of personal responsibility, these are tough times.

Our Constitution is in the shredder, the economy is dominated by the federal government with economic decisions made by politicians and re-election politics, and too many people are whining victims of some injustice demanding government help.

The result is an economy with a 19 percent unemployment and under employment rate, perpetual wars, too-big-to-fail fat cats getting fatter, a tsunami of government debt, a runaway ruling class asserting a “We the Government” arrogance – and the rest of us wondering what happened to our country.

Where did the land of the free and the home of the brave go?

Today, I’m in Washington, D.C., for three days of action broadcasts. I call it “Hold Their Feet To The Fire,” or HTFTTF. I’m joined by 50 listener activists who have paid their own way to lobby Congress and report back on the program so that listeners can follow up with email, tweets and phone calls to support these citizen lobbyists.

Our message is simple: Cut federal spending, repeal and defund Obamacare and secure the border with Mexico.

The Republicans believe that our demands to stop the exploding federal deficit spending (now running at $1,600 billion this year or over $4 billion each day) can be satisfied by a $61 billion cut (a 4 percent solution). No.

We know that a similar Republican House victory in the 1946 election resulted in the dismantling of the World War II government economy of total war, wage and price controls and rationing.

By 1948, the federal budget was reduced 47 percent by those Republicans. That’s what we’re talking about. Repeal, defund, dismantle. Now.

After fighting disclosure requests all the way to the Supreme Court, the Federal Reserve finally was forced to disclose that, yes, more than half of the emergency bank loans at the Fed’s “discount window” in the crisis atmosphere of fall 2008 were granted to foreign banks, including the Bank of China. Too big to fail, indeed.

Defund TARP, the “stimulus” bill and all the other “bailouts.” Now.

Then-Speaker Pelosi promised we would find out what’s in Obamacare after it was passed. We are. Last week, congressional staffers documented a $5 billion slush fund ($2 billion already spent) to underwrite early retirement health-care costs for the UAW, Teamsters and assorted blue state public employee unions.

Also last week, we found out that AARP’s support for Obamacare was not based on just policy considerations. AARP will make $1 billion over the next 10 years from the Obamacare-approved insurance it helps sell.

Obamacare is first and foremost a multi-billion dollar platform for the re-election of Barack Obama. Repeal, defund. Now.

On Wednesday, in connection with the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, I will be one of 50 radio talk hosts demanding border security now.

A Government Accountability Office study recently revealed that only 125 of the 1,925 miles of border between the U.S. and Mexico was “under the control” by the Border Patrol. Fully 1,100 miles of that border are without operational control.

No “reform” of federal immigration law can even be discussed without complete control of the border first. We are not a sovereign nation without border control. Secure the border. Now.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano held a press conference/photo op in El Paso last week to tout her success at the border, claiming that this area crisscrossed with drug and people smuggling routes, littered with the trash of millions of illegals, the scene of running gun battles between the cartel soldiers and federal agents, was “safer than ever.”

The Border Patrol Council, representing agents, immediately spoke out denouncing the statement as a lie.

Reporter Sherryl Atkinson of CBS News, using on-camera interviews of two Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives agents has exposed a program of the BATFE (part of the Justice Department) which allowed thousands of dangerous firearms to cross the border and get into the hands of the Mexican drug cartels.

Mexican senators have called this an act of war by the U.S. Sen. Grassley, R-Iowa, and Rep. Issa, R-Calif., have called for hearings, and Issa has subpoenaed documents. Obama says he knew nothing about the BATFE project, and neither did AG Eric Holder – even though it was in the president’s budget and was scheduled to get an $11 million increase in FY 2012.

What did the president know and when did he know it?

If this is still a constitutional republic with a representative democracy, then represent this: We the People want our America back – starting with a servant government, not a master.

Today, I am one, accompanied by 50. But we represent the majority of disappointed, and yes angry, Americans who know that government cannot mandate prosperity with borrowed money, cannot “reform” medical care with a DMV mentality and cannot call an open border safe.
