In the immediate aftermath of President Obama’s issuance of an image he claims to be his original, long-form birth certificate, there have been rumors swirling that the name of his alleged birth hospital is not accurate on the document.

Image released by the White House April 27, 2011

The image states the specific hospital for Obama’s birth is the Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital.

That has sparked some cries of fraud and a flood of emails to WND, as some have noted that the name of the hospital currently is the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, and there’s no mention of “Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital” on the facility’s own website which provides some history of itself.

On its “About us” page, Kapiolani explains: “This is the story of two hospitals: Kauikeolani Children’s Hospital and Kapi’olani Maternity Home.”

Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu, Hawaii, provides a brief sketch of its name history on its website, but fails to mention it was called the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital.

It says the two hospitals joined in 1978 to become Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, but it makes no mention that it was known for a time as the Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital.

The variety of names is sparking confusion, with one WND reader sending a typical email stating: “The hospital’s name that was listed on Obama’s birth certificate was not called that hospital in 1978. It was a different name in 1961 and later changed its name.”

The key to resolving the issue is looking at the official birth certificate of someone else born at the time Obama was born, and the evidence does exist in the form of birth certificates from Susan and Gretchen Nordyke, a pair of twins born at Kapiolani on Aug. 5, 1961, the day after Obama’s purported birth.

Birth certificate of Gretchen Nordyke, one of two twin sisters born at what was known in 1961 as the Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.

When looking at Gretchen Nordyke’s birth certificate, the entry box for the name of the hospital or institution where she was born indeed says Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital, the exact same name as on the image released by Obama.

Thus, there is no discrepancy, at least on the name of the birth hospital.
