Editor’s note: Jerome Corsi’s “Where’s the Birth Certificate? The Case That Barack Obama Is Not Eligible to Be President” is available today for immediate shipping, autographed by the author, exclusively from the WND Superstore.

Was it really Donald Trump who forced Barack Obama to release what purports to be his long-awaited birth certificate?

That is the conventional wisdom of the Big Media.

But a cursory review of the timetable the White House released to the Washington Post suggests the impending release of Jerome Corsi’s “Where’s the Birth Certificate? The Case That Obama Is Not Eligible to Be President” was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

According to the account in the Post, Obama got serious about releasing the document April 21. That’s when White House Counsel Robert Bauer asked Obama’s personal attorney, Judy Corley of Perkins Coie, to contact the Hawaii health department to secure the birth certificate.

That, of course, was less than a full day after Corsi’s book was featured on the Drudge Report and rocketed to No. 1 on Amazon – long before its release date of May 17.

The Drudge Report posted Jerome Corsi’s book as its lead story, prompting it to skyrocket to No. 1 on Amazon.com.

Drudge’s report declared: “The street date is a LONG month away, and author Jerome Corsi, the man who torpedoed John Kerry’s presidential dreams with SWIFT BOAT, has gone underground and is holding his new findings thisclose. ‘It’s utterly devastating,’ reveals a source close to the publisher. ‘Obama may learn things he didn’t even know about himself!’”

Drudge wondered then whether the president’s attorneys will “attempt to interfere with the book’s distribution?” and whether the book will “finally – once and for all – put an end to the growing controversy?”

Well, that’s exactly what happened.

This was a pre-emptive strike against a book that will put the eligibility debate back on track.

As Corsi explains, the question of American birth is but a single side issue in the controversy over “natural born citizenship” and constitutional eligibility.

Obama would love to put this issue behind him. Polls just before his strategic release showed fewer than 40 percent of the American public believed his story. The combination of Trump’s megaphone, public opinion and the release of Corsi’s book literally threatened Obama’s presidency.

But guess what.

It’s still threatened.

That’s not only my conclusion – it’s the assessment of people around the world who recognize what is truly happening here in Washington.

We have a pretender to the throne sitting in the highest office of the land – the most powerful elected position in the world.

America has, without a vote, without a constitutional amendment, without even a court decision, dumbed down the eligibility requirement for the presidency. And that is unacceptable.

Even if you have no beef with Obama’s policies, it is incumbent upon Americans – all Americans – to live by the law of the land. It is the Constitution that holds us together. It is our most important governing document. We cannot fritter away its clear meaning haphazardly and without a vigorous and open public debate.

That’s what is coming next week with the release of Corsi’s book.

Whether or not the “birth certificate” Obama has released is valid and proves a Hawaiian birth, Obama is still not eligible to serve as president. It’s just that simple. And this book will make that case in a compelling way.

I also believe the questions Obama has raised with his long delay in compliance with the public’s clamor for documentation has left him severely damaged. If withholding the document was a calculated political strategy, it has backfired. Americans are more cynical than ever about him. He has less credibility today than he has since his election.

Obama clearly wants to move on.

That’s what politicians always want to do when they are cornered.

Allowing him to move on without a full and open debate about his eligibility will prove disastrous not just because of his policies, but also what it will mean for the future of the presidency.

Americans do not want illegal aliens to serve as presidents. That’s not what the founders envisioned at all. But conceding to Obama’s eligibility will open the door to American presidents who were “anchor babies” – children born of illegal aliens born on U.S. soil.

That’s not what the Constitution means. That’s not what the founders intended. And it’s not what Americans want today.
