Movieguide awards gala hitting Hallmark channel

One of the biggest nights of the year for the best of Hollywood is coming to your television May 16.

Ted Baehr, Movieguide founder and executive producer of the Movieguide Awards, has announced that Movieguide’s 19th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry will air on the Hallmark Movie Channel at 7 p.m. Eastern May 16.

“We’re very pleased that Hallmark has chosen to air the Movieguide Awards, which lets the whole country in on the faith, the fabulous and the fun,” he said.

The Movieguide awards were held in February at the Universal Hilton in the heart of Hollywood. Hosted by Kevin Sorbo, top movies were honored from the Best Family Movie to the Faith and Freedom Awards Promoting American Values to the two coveted Epiphany Prizes for Inspiring Movies & TV, which also come with two $100,000 cash prizes for the winners.

The night was filled with movie clips, acceptance remarks and surprises and guests. Celebrities filled the red carpet event and legendary composer Al Kasha received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Pat Boone.

“This year the group Mary Mary performed, as did Ace Young from ‘American Idol’ and then the LA Gospel Choir sang to an action montage about movie heroes. It was very moving and fitting for an awards show that honors excellence, faith and traditional values,” said Baehr.

Some of the prizes are funded by the John Templeton Foundation, which supports work at the world’s top universities in such fields as theoretical physics, cosmology, evolutionary biology, cognitive science and social science relating to love, forgiveness, creativity, purpose and the nature and origin of religious belief.

The annual Faith & Values Awards Gala is sponsored by the Christian Film & Television Commission ministry chaired by Baehr. The commission is dedicated to “redeeming the values of the entertainment industry by influencing industry executives and by informing and equipping the public about the influence of the entertainment media.”

Among the features of the May 16 program will be the announcement of the Grace Awards for Most Inspiring Performances in Movies & TV.

The Grace Awards honor actors whose performance in a movie and television program “exemplifies God’s grace and mercy toward us as human beings.”

More information about the awards are on the organization’s website, and information about the Hallmark Movie Channel also is available online.
