Herman Cain

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain today said that accusations of sexual harassment are “totally baseless.”

Cain said during an appearance on Fox News this morning, “I’ve never sexually harassed anyone. Yes, I was false accused … I say falsely because after the investigation it turned out to be baseless.”

In a report over the weekend, Politico said while Cain was head of the National Restaurant Associstion in the 1990s, two women complained to coworkers and other officials about “inappropriate behavior.”

The report quoted sources saying the women felt angry and uncomfortable, and they signed agreements that gave them money to leave.

The report said the women also signed agreements that they would not talk about the issue.

Cain today said his character and integrity have been affirmed by numerous situations and individuals, and the claim was “totally baseless and totally false. Never have I committed any sort of sexual harassment.”

He said he was aware of the false accusation that “took place at the restaurant association,” but that it ended up being handled by other officers.

“The only allegation [that would appear],” he said, “would be trumped up allegations because there’s nothing else.”

He said he and his campaign will stay “on message.”

He said he knew some people would be “turned off by this cloud.”

“We’ll just have to wait and see what happens,” he said.

Cain’s campaign earlier said the “personal attacks” were “thinly sourced.”

Campaign spokesman J.D. Gordon said the allegations were “baseless.”
