Muslims exposing terrorism slammed by Muslim CAIR

A prominent Islamic group in Washington indicted as a co-conspirator in a massive terror-finance plot is slamming Muslims who are exposing a Somali terrorist group affiliated with al-Qaida and its recruitment of young immigrants to the Midwest.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations – which has seen more than a dozen of its leaders investigated or convicted in terror-related cases – called Minneapolis activists Omar Jamal and Abdirizak Bihi “anti-Muslim” for their participation in a seminar in St. Paul on Somali culture Nov. 10 that included a discussion about the terrorist group al-Shabaab, according to the Investigative Project on Terrorism

CAIR’s Minnesota chapter was particularly angry about a session led by Jamal and Bihi titled “Al Shabaab: An Islamic Extremist Terrorism Organization.”

CAIR and nearly 30 other groups complained that the description of al-Shabaab “fails to distinguish between Islam and terrorism,” the IPT reported.

The seminar was sponsored by the Center for Somalia History Studies, an organization founded earlier this year by former Ramsey County, Minn., Sheriff Bob Fletcher.

The president of CAIR’s Minnesota chapter, A. Lori Saroya, complained that conference attendees would “receive inaccurate and biased information about Muslims and Somalis.”

CAIR-MN previously came under fire for refusing to criticize al-Shabaab.

U.S. counter-terrorism officials regard CAIR as a front group for the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood, the parent of most of the major Islamic terrorist groups, including Hamas and al-Qaida. CAIR and some of its leaders were named unindicted co-conspirators in the largest terror finance case in U.S. history. The Washington, D.C.-based group is suing a father-and-son team that conducted an undercover probe that came up with 12,000 pages of internal documents confirming CAIR’s role as a front for the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas in the U.S. The findings were published in the WND Books best-selling expose “Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America”

Minneapolis Star-Tribune columnist Jon Tevlin said he heard no criticism of Islam during the presentation at the St. Paul conference. The emphasis was on the 20 young Somali men who have been lured from the Twin Cities to fight with al-Shabaab

Tom Lyden, a reporter for Fox 9 News in Minneapolis, said Jamal and Bihi are targets because they “were the first to blow the whistle on the effort to recruit Minnesotan Somalis for terrorism in Somalia,” according to ITP.

He noted that three of the men who disappeared from the Twin Cities later became suicide bombers for al-Shabaab in Kenya and Somalia.

Lyden believes CAIR’s real objection is to Bihi’s “outspoken stance that some local mosques have fostered an environment that encouraged the radicalization of young Somali men”

In an interview with IPT, Bihi criticized CAIR and local mosque officials for hindering Somali cooperation with the FBI.

Lyden he has tried unsuccessfully for nearly three years to get CAIR to comment on the Somali youth who have left Minnesota to fight for al-Shabaab but has received no response.

“For an organization that is supposed to represent Muslim Americans, I think that silence is particularly strange,” he wrote on his blog.

As former FBI agent Mike Rolf acknowledges in “Muslim Mafia,” “CAIR has had a number of people in positions of power within the organization that have been directly connected to terrorism and have either been prosecuted or thrown out of the country.” According to another FBI veteran familiar with recent and ongoing cases involving CAIR officials, “Their offices have been a turnstile for terrorists and their supporters.”

A review of the public record, including federal criminal court documents, past IRS 990 tax records and Federal Election Commission records detailing donor occupations, reveals that CAIR has been associated with a disturbing number of convicted terrorists or felons in terrorism probes, as well as suspected terrorists and active targets of terrorism investigations. The list is long and includes:

The CAIR legal attack on WND’s author is far from over. WND needs your help in supporting the defense of “Muslim Mafia” co-author P. David Gaubatz, as well as his investigator son Chris, against CAIR’s lawsuit. The book’s revelations have led to formal congressional demands for three different federal investigations of CAIR. In the meantime, however, someone has to defend these two courageous investigators who have, at great personal risk, revealed so much about this dangerous group. Although WND has procured the best First Amendment attorneys in the country for their defense, we can’t do it without your help. Please donate to WND’s Legal Defense Fund now.
