(POLITICO) — At long last, Rick Santorum’s moment has arrived.

After hitting all of Iowa’s 99 counties and grinding through hundreds of town halls and meet-and-greets, the former Pennsylvania senator is finally the GOP flavor of the month — the candidate who’s mobbed by the media horde, who speaks to overflow crowds, who gets segments dedicated to his rise on cable news shows.

It’s a long way from his once-entrenched position as a cellar-dweller and Santorum, his family and staff are finding the rapid ascent slightly jarring.
