It’s a bird!
It’s a plane!
It’s Superman – and he’s joining forces with Movieguide to rescue Hollywood from the grips of movie-making villains who celebrate dirty language, dirty jokes, sexual innuendo and immorality.
Actor Dean Cain, best known for his role as Superman and Clark Kent in the series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” will host Movieguide’s red-carpet awards gala honoring Hollywood for its cleanest, most popular and most inspiring movies.
The 20th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry will be held Feb. 10, 2012, at the Universal Hilton Hotel in the heart of the worldwide entertainment industry in Los Angeles, Calif.
Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide, told WND the organization chose Cain to host its awards gala this year because the actor loves doing “really good, faith-filled films.”
“He’s one of the top stars for doing movies and television films with strong Christian faith in them,” Baehr said. “He does wonderful portrayals, many of them on the Hallmark Channel. He’s a person who really cares about faith and family.”
Unlike many other Hollywood awards shows these days, Baehr said Movieguide’s gala is clean, wholesome and uplifting. The gala celebrates positive values and good content in movies and television.
“It’s an event that honors families and lifts up producers, writers and directors,” he explained. “It’s just a wonderful time, because we honor the movies people like to see and the movies that America likes. We want to be there to help people choose the good and reject the bad.”
One of 10 nominated family movies will be named the Best Movie for Families in 2011. In alphabetical order, the nominees are:
“The Adventures of Tintin”
“Justin Bieber: Never Say Never”
“Mars Needs Moms”
“Mr. Popper’s Penguins”
“Puss in Boots”
Baehr said the family films will be ranked by 1) quality and entertainment value (beauty and production values) and 2) acceptability (faith content and maturity level).
Other movies, television programs and people being honored at the event include the 10 Best 2011 Movies for Mature Audiences, the Most Inspiring Movie and TV Program of 2011, the Most Inspiring Performances in Movies and TV in 2011, the $50,000 Kairos Prizes for the Most Spiritually Uplifting Screenplay by Beginning Writers and the Best Movie and TV Program in 2011 Promoting Positive American Values.
At the gala, Baehr will present highlights from Movieguide’s Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, which evaluates the popularity and financial success of family-friendly and spiritually uplifting movies and television programs.
“We do the show for the people in Hollywood,” Baehr said. “We want them to hear the gospel. We want them to do well.”
Movieguide Awards Gala tickets are $1,000 and are available for purchase for a limited time. The show will be televised on the Hallmark Channel at a future date.
