(SUN-SENTINEL) — A mere 20 people have the vast, undeveloped western two-thirds of Broward County all to themselves.

The 1.8 million people packed into urbanized Broward may not realize it, but Weston isn’t really the farthest-west address that Broward Countians call home.

Just west of U.S. 27 is the tiny, makeshift city of Everglades Holiday Park — with its own water plant, school bus stop and jobs, and the entertainment of utter quiet.

The latest census puts a statistic on their solitude.

But these are the final days for this home in the Glades. In a matter of months, one of the last Everglades colonies in Broward will be emptied.
