Welcome to the virtual headquarters of the “No More Red Ink” campaign.

My name is Joseph Farah, and I’m the founder of this effort – a campaign to stop Washington’s borrowing and spending madness cold by January 2013.

I wish it could be done sooner, but, thanks to the current Republican leadership in the House of Representatives, our next opportunity will come early next year after the new Congress is sworn in. Last August, House Republicans, led by Speaker John Boehner, not only voted overwhelmingly to raise the nation’s debt limit, but they actually relinquished their own authority to freeze it for the rest of Barack Obama’s first term in the White House. Effectively, it was the Republicans in the House who handed Obama a blank check to spend as much as he deems fit until he either leaves office or is sworn in for a second term.

I consider that an outrage.

So I decided to do something about it.

Previously I had organized a grass-roots lobbying effort to freeze the debt limit at $14.3 trillion. We were successful in delivering more than 1 million red letters to House Republicans last year urging them to stop passing on debt to our children and grandchildren – money that is frittered away on useless, wasteful and unconstitutional departments, agencies and bureaucracies that benefit no one except the power brokers in Washington.

During that campaign, we saw House Republicans move in increasing numbers toward the goal of freezing the debt – an action they could legally take unilaterally without a single Democrat vote. But then came Boehner’s leadership, characterized by bullying and arm-twisting tactics. By last summer, when the vote finally came, only 22 House Republicans stood firm in the face of all the threats and pressure.

However, it will take only 218 House Republican votes to stop the borrowing next year. And I’m pretty certain Republicans will maintain control of the House and possibly gain control of the Senate next year. That’s why I’m optimistic about the success of this powerful, nation-changing plan.

Just think what it will mean if, following this campaign of relentless, grass-roots lobbying, Republicans actually live up to their rhetoric about the Constitution and limited government and balanced budgets next year. We can have a balanced budget overnight!

We can eliminate unconstitutional and destructive bureaucracies like the Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency! We can eliminate Planned Parenthood funding and obscene artwork sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts! We can eliminate the propaganda we subsidize on National Public Radio and PBS!

We can even eliminate Obamacare in one fell swoop!

It will all have to go – because there just won’t be enough funds to pay for it all.

There will only be enough money to pay for absolute necessities – Social Security, Defense, Border Patrol, etc.

It will mean the most radical cut in spending in American history, since we are borrowing more than $100 billion every month. Spending by Washington after a debt freeze will be limited to U.S. Treasury revenues – about $2.2 trillion by last count. You would think $2.2 trillion would go pretty far. But it’s never far enough for some politicians in Washington.

If you agree with what I’ve said so far, let me tell you about the plan to accomplish our goal of freezing the debt limit and ending all borrowing by Washington in January 2013:

  • The first step is to take advantage of the tool I have created that makes it quick, easy and inexpensive to send every current House Republican a red letter putting them on notice. Most of these Republican members will be back next year, so we can start turning up the heat on them now. Tell all your friends about the “No More Red Ink” campaign, and persuade them to participate, too. There’s no other more economical or efficient way to reach 241 GOP House members with an urgent message than this. Trust me, I’ve already sent them more than 1 million letters! My goal is to make that 10 million in 2012.
  • The second step is to help me solicit the signatures of every Republican member of Congress – both House and Senate – on our No-More-Borrowing Pledge. We also want to target every Republican presidential candidate and every Republican candidate for Congress in 2012. Why a pledge? Because many members of Congress previously made verbal commitments to oppose borrowing, but broke their word. It’s a fact that written pledges of this kind make it much tougher to go back on your word. (Just think about the effectiveness of the “no new taxes pledge.”) You’re free to see an official copy of the pledge here, download it, make copies and distribute them freely. If you know a member of Congress or a congressional candidate this year, get him or her to sign it. And get a picture of the signing to send back to us for the official record.
  • The third step is to talk this issue up every way you can. If you have a chance to bring it up at a town hall meeting with your member of Congress, do it. If you have a chance to talk this issue up on a radio show, do it. If you have a chance to ask a question at a presidential debate, do it. If you have a Facebook page or a website on which you can link this page, do it. The media won’t cover this story until they are forced to cover it – until they see it’s a national trend they cannot hide.
  • The fourth step is enlisting the support of prominent individuals and organizations across the country to support the “No More Red Ink” campaign. We need to turn this issue into a runaway freight train this year – and ride it into responsible government in 2013.

It all starts with you. Do you still believe America can be saved through a concerted effort by concerned Americans? Are you willing to give it a try? Start right now by sending 241 red letters to the House Republicans. It only takes one minute at a cost of only $29.99 with our amazing “No More Red Ink” fulfillment tool. The impact of this joint effort has been staggering!
