The battle over same-sex marriage is heading to Washington state. Gov. Chris Gregoire announced Wednesday that she would introduce legislation granting gays and lesbians the right to legally marry.
“It’s time, it’s the right thing to do,”
Gregoire, a 64-year-old Democrat, said in a statement posted on her website. “I say that as a wife, a mother, a student of the law and above all as a Washingtonian with a lifelong commitment to equality and freedom.”
