With President Obama in office, Israel can no longer count on America’s unqualified support, charged former Republican presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington today.
“In this hour of need, America must stand with Israel,” she said. “But somehow the president of the United States thinks Jews building apartments in Jerusalem are more dangerous that Iranians building bombs in Tehran.”
She insisted that Jerusalem “does belong to Israel.”
Bachmann repudiated Obama’s claim that America is not a Judeo-Christian nation.
“Before Obama was elected, no president ever went around apologizing to the world for America or saying that America was not an exceptional country,” she said, emphasizing Obama must be denied a second term in office.
She argued that Obama’s successes in foreign policy, such as killing Osama Bin Laden, were tactical.
His failures abroad, she said, have been massive.
“It is unthinkable that Obama went to Cairo and reached out to the Muslim Brotherhood in doing so,” she said. “Why would the president of the United States give the Muslim Brotherhood a seat of honor at his first major foreign policy address?”
She criticized Obama for abandoning Hosni Mubarak, the former president of Egypt, in favor of allowing the Muslim Brotherhood fill in the power vacuum with a government hostile to Christians and dangerous for Americans.
She also took Obama to task for not embracing the anti-government movement in Iran in June 2009.
Bachmann mentioned her run for the Republican nomination, which ended one day after finishing with just 5 percent of the vote in the Iowa Caucuses.
“Running for president is one series of humiliations after another,” she said.
