The Republican Party in the House, now including Iowa Rep. Kim Pearson, has
moved further to the right. This week alone we’ve seen their misogynistic attitudes full force.

No matter which Republican candidate wins the nomination, if elected president, he will undermine
women’s reproductive rights. We can expect many efforts to criminalize their
reproductive choices.

Scientists and medical experts agree – contraception is important to women’s
health. The American Medical Association and the American Congress of
Obstetricians and Gynecologist recommend contraceptives.
Doctors prescribe contraception for medical and health reasons, including
the risk of some cancers, serious infections and cysts.
Women using contraceptives reduce the risk of ovarian cysts, endometriosis,
pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroid tumors, abnormal bleeding and
pain associated with ovulation and anemia.

Iowa Rep. Kim Pearson wants to change Iowa law and consider an
abortion a Class A felony punishable by up to 10 years and a $10,000 fine.
Santorum wants to punish financially those on Medicaid for having children.

Many extremists cite the Bible, but what’s in the Bible is subject to
interpretation and manipulation. There is no sentence in the Bible that
specifically addresses abortion. What the Bible does is describe the family
as father, wife, son, daughter and child – there’s no reference to an embryo
or fetus.

Are women across the nation and in Iowa going to stand by and let a few
regressive reactionary extremists strip your rights away? Are the wives so
subservient that they will not defend themselves?
