(Richmond Times-Dispatch) – Political renegade and former U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr. of Franklin County is running for president.

The Democrat turned independent turned Republican has filed his paperwork and is seeking the Constitution Party’s nomination.

Goode, who lost his 5th District congressional seat to Democrat Tom Perriello in 2008, is running on a platform of reducing immigration, both legal and illegal, balancing the budget immediately and preserving Social Security and Medicare.

“I would say my chances are between 1 in 1,000 and 1 in 10,000,” Goode said Saturday in a phone interview. “But if the public awakens to a true remedy for the job situation and the swing to the left with ever-expanding government, we’ve got a pathway to success.”
