Romney wins Maine GOP caucuses

(FOX NEWS) — Mitt Romney edged out Ron Paul to win the Maine Republican presidential caucuses Saturday, capping a strong day for the campaign following a string of setbacks earlier in the week.

The Maine GOP announced Saturday evening that Romney received 39 percent of the vote in the state’s nonbinding contest. Paul came in second, with 36 percent.

Just hours earlier, Romney also was declared the winner of the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference. The two votes of confidence are a needed boost for the presumptive frontrunner, after having lost three states in a row on Tuesday to Rick Santorum — who is rising in national polls on the heels of those contests.
