In the second part of our conversation with Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), we discuss the legislative wish list DeMint would pursue if Republicans do well enough in November.

“We must pass a constitutional amendment that requires us to balance our budget every year … if we don’t do that we’re going to bankrupt the country, regardless of who’s in charge.”

The senator also discusses whether the eventual Republican presidential nominee will be able to articulate the type of message he thinks is needed to win in 2012.

“We have to have consistent character and a demonstration of courage. The next president is going to serve in the most difficult time in our nation’s history.”

DeMint also offers a candid assessment of whether he thinks the current GOP House and Senate leaders are up to the task of advancing the type of agenda that he believes is necessary to save America from the financial abyss.
