This morning I heard Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., 5th District, on our local radio station say one of the most disturbing things I have ever heard.
As you may know, the Defense Department is facing disproportionate cuts as a result of the idiot deficit-reduction deal this past year due the failure of the super committee to find other cuts. The deal targets 50 percent of the cuts to the DoD, which makes up only 17 percent of the federal budget. Congressman Brooks is on the Armed Services Committee, and part of his comments were that the White House has instructed the DoD not to make any plans for the $500 billion in cuts that will take place automatically on Jan 1, 2013, and at the same time has signaled that Obama would veto any measure that would cancel those cuts.
Not allowing the Defense Department to plan how it would make cuts amounts to a ticking time bomb. The end result will be hundreds of thousands of military and civilian jobs lost across the country with a significant ripple effect through the economy, while gutting our military capability. So far, this has gotten very little attention in the media, so I thought you should know and may be interested.
By the way, if you haven’t acquainted yourself with Rep. Brooks, you should do so. I am very proud, as an ultra conservative, to have him as my congressman. He has great credentials, a strong conservative record and is well-versed in economics and the rule of law. He makes frequent appearances on hostile news networks and regularly puts them to shame.
