(DETROIT FREE-PRESS) — While growing up in Michigan, Dominic Sheahan-Stahl said, he was taught in Catholic schools that everyone is worthy of God’s love.
“I was told God is love. … No one is outside the love of God,” Sheahan-Stahl recalled.
And so when the principal of his alma mater in Mt. Pleasant, Sacred Heart Academy, asked the 32-year-old actor last fall to be the commencement speaker at graduation, he accepted, eager to help out his old school and a community he loved.
But last month the principal rescinded his invitation after finding out through Facebook that Sheahan-Stahl is openly gay and engaged to marry a man. The principal said that is a violation of Catholic teachings.
