Who you calling 'racist'?

As a group, conservative talk radio hosts are often demonized by liberal critics as “racist” hate mongers. Now, Dennis Prager comes to the defense of his colleagues in his new book “Still the Best Hope: Why the World Needs American Values to Triumph.”

“With few – actually, very few – exceptions,” Prager writes, “conservative talk radio has been overwhelmingly hate free. Take, for example, my … colleagues – Bill Bennett, Mike Gallagher, Janet Mefferd, Hugh Hewitt and Michael Medved – and myself: Is even one of us a hate monger? To anyone who has ever listened to us, the question is absurd. All of us attack positions, rarely people, and never with expressions of hate.”

Rush Limbaugh

For three years, Rush Limbaugh has been asking, “Where are Obama’s ex-girlfriends?”

Such women, he notes, always come out of the woodwork when men are running for office to either praise or condemn them. However, none emerged when Obama appeared on the national scene.

That is, until now. Limbaugh latched onto reports that the girlfriend Obama mentioned in his autobiography was in fact a composite figure. What else has the president been less than truthful about, asked Rush, and why is this information only coming to light now? (FREE audio)

This week, Limbaugh announced his plan to go on the offensive against Media Matters, the George Soros-funded activist group that has been attacking him since it began.

Rush’s website now features an exhaustive investigation into the partisan origins and dangerous agenda of Media Matters, which nevertheless enjoys the benefits of 501(c)3 “non-profit” status.

Michael Savage

“Once I had a guy say, ‘You’re Michael Savage; I hate you.’”

While promoting his new book “Trickle Down Tyranny,” Savage talked to his local community newspaper, the Marinscope News.

He joked that he’d initially been drawn to California’s Marin County by “the promise of seeing deer in his backyard.” Alas, these days “the creatures are so pervasive at his Larkspur and Tiburon homes that ‘I don’t know how to get rid of them.’”

Savage was on vacation this week, but his presence was still felt at, of all places, the May Day Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City.

Politicker.com reports that one protester – an “older woman” named Anna who’d fled “a socialist country 21 years ago” – carried a sign reading “Liberalism is a mental disorder: Michael Savage.”

She told the reporter that her presence at an Occupy demonstration wasn’t the contradiction it seemed.

“I’m against the crooks in Washington,” she explained. “Liberalism is the one who opens the borders.”

Calling herself a “staunch listener” to Savage’s radio show, Anna added that her favorite host would be in favor of the Occupy movement if he attended a rally himself.

Aaron Klein

On the eve of Occupy’s “May Day” protests, Aaron Klein exposed the movement’s partnership with anarchists who’d vowed to shut down the nation’s transportation arteries on Tuesday.

Klein also talked to the wife of convicted spy Jonathan Pollard about her husband’s ill health; investigated reports that the Iranian navy was patrolling the coast off New York; and explained that Obama’s new “atrocities czar” believes war is one way her side can achieve her “liberal, radical values” (FREE audio).

Sean Hannity

Sean Hannity was singled out by the Democrats as part of their new “Forward” campaign ads.

As images of Hannity, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are flashed on the screen, the commercial’s narrator says that “instead of working together to lift America up, Republicans were waging a campaign to tear the president down” (FREE video).

Mark Levin

Former CIA official Jose Rodriguez spoke to Mark Levin about the enhanced interrogation techniques used on Muslim terrorists. The interview, however, focused more on Rodriguez’s briefing to Nancy Pelosi about waterboarding – a briefing she now insists never happened. Rodriguez told Levin bluntly that Pelosi is lying outright (FREE audio).

Levin wasn’t amused by Obama’s attempts at humor during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He believes the president was mocking Sarah Palin when he made a joke about pit bulls and hockey moms, essentially comparing her to a dog.

“When is the day going to come,” Levin wondered, “when conservative men will stand up for our women?” (FREE audio)

Laura Ingraham

Laura Ingraham and former George W. Bush Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld talked about the president’s Afghanistan strategy, about which Rumsfeld is harshly critical.

In a lively segment, the Catholic League’s Bill Donahue debated a “social justice” nun on the air. The topic? The Vatican’s intention to discipline orders of nuns who fail to uphold church teaching on abortion and birth control (FREE audio).

Glenn Beck

During her interview with former CIA agent Jose Rodriguez, Lesley Stahl of “60 Minutes” appeared horrified by his statement that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was subjected to “dietary manipulation” – that is, he was occasionally fed the vitamin-packed liquid meal supplement Ensure rather than ordinary food.

Glenn Beck mocked Stahl’s outrage by “waterboarding” his co-host Stu Burguiere – with bottles of Ensure (FREE video).

And now, from the left side of the dial …

It doesn’t seem possible, but this week listeners to Al Sharpton’s radio show learned that some of his callers are even wackier than he is.

As reported by Brian Maloney at the Radio Equalizer blog, even Sharpton was annoyed by a caller who floated the conspiracy theory that Trayvon Martin’s heart had been transplanted into Dick Cheney.

We can laugh at such nonsense, but Sharpton has done little over the years to tamp down similar conspiracies that have taken root in the African-American community, like the notion that the American government intentionally invented “crack” and AIDS to afflict black citizens.

These conspiracy theories slowly but surely erode social harmony and fuel suspicion and resentment. There is nothing funny about them, and Sharpton has enriched himself on their promotion.
