In reply to "Emboldened tea party: Romney better move to right – Mitt Romney can sweep the November election and bury the opposition by merely amending his campaign stump speech. Tens of millions of voters rally to Romney's drumbeat of "economic freedom." However, more tens of millions will join the dance if Romney passionately embraces the sanctity of individual freedom and privacy, which are related natural rights under ferocious assault by this federal government. The operative word is "freedom."
Our government is unquestionably anti-freedom. Americans of all political stripes are not happy being droned, surveilled, tapped, tracked, TSA'd and now subject to indefinite detention without due process of law. They don't like being considered "suspects" by an out-of-control behemoth merely because they breathe. Romney can tap into this vast mother lode of resentment against an imperious government and transform it to a sizable winning edge by making this simple argument, i.e., to enjoy the benefits of economic freedom, individual liberty and the right to be left alone must not only be inviolate but also proactively protected and defended.
