Attorneys petition for full machine recount in West race

(TCPalm) Two attorneys have petitioned the Florida Secretary of State for a full machine recount in Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties for the tightly contested District 18 race that favored Patrick Murphy over U.S. Rep. Allen West.

Attorneys Jeffrey Scott Shapiro and Mark Young, who have previously volunteered for West’s campaign, sent the petition. But West campaign manager Tim Edson said the two attorneys sent the district-wide request independent of the campaign.

“It’s not something our campaign has done,” Edson said. “Our focus is making sure all the votes in St. Lucie County are counted.”
