'Batman' says China's abortions are 'true horror'

“Batman” actor Christian Bale is blasting the “horror” of the Chinese government’s one-child policy, in which women are forced to abort their unborn children because of population limits imposed by the government.
Bale, in a report at MovieGuide.org, said a “program of forced abortion means that women are being dragged from their homes against their will.”
“They are being forced to have abortions, sometimes late-term – imagine that – with some women reportedly dying in the process,” he said.
Bale’s comments at a Human Rights First event also were documented by Godreports, according to the Movieguide report.
He had praise for Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng, who had publicly stood up to oppose the government’s policies in China.
Chen “had exposed a program of forced abortion and sterilization in Shandong,” Bale said at the event.
“This is true horror,” he said. “And, in this insane world, this man, Chen, who was helping these women, who was living by some of the most simple, brave and universally admired values – values we teach our children every day – and helping our fellow man, for this, this man was imprisoned and beaten for over four years.”
News reports confirm Chen was under arrest in China in 2011 when Bale tried to visit him but was prevented.
“What I really wanted to do was shake the man’s hand and say ‘thank you,’ and tell him what an inspiration he is,” Bale said, according to the Movieguide report.
Bale has played “Batman” in the last three movies of the series, including “Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” He won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Dicky Eklund in “The Fighter.”
Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of MovieGuide, said: “What Christian and Chen are doing here is truly heroic. We applaud them both in the strongest terms.”
The report said there also was praise from Reggie Littlejohn, of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers.
“Christian Bale has become a human rights champion in his own right. He risked his safety to visit Chen last December. His attack by Chinese thugs brought visibility to Chen’s case. This visibility greatly helped the international effort to free Chen. And, Bale is brave to condemn the practice of forced abortion in China.”
Dr. Jim Garrow, who has launched the Pink Pagoda Girls campaign to raise $1 billion over the next 10 years to save the lives of a million baby girls in China by facilitating their adoptions by couples outside the communist nation, said the foundation for the one-child policy – that overpopulation was threatening China – is a lie.
Garrow has already been credited with saving thousands of baby girls in China who otherwise would have been killed by their families under the one-child policy.
Garrow was executive director of the Bethune Institute’s popular Pink Pagoda schools in China, which are private, English-only institutions to prepare Chinese students to apply to the top universities in the world.
He said the American Christian population needs to remember the mandate from God that “a life given by God is a gift of God and should always be protected.”
Garrow in recent years has spent tens of millions of dollars to save some 45,000 infant girls who otherwise would have been discarded in China. They have been delivered to adoptive couples anxiously waiting to be parents.
In an interview, Garrow told WND that there are inquiries already arriving about whether a similar program could be launched in other countries, such as India, and he forecast that there could come a day when the same effort would be needed in the United States.
“I can see us being called back to North America to do exactly the same thing in our homeland,” he said.
Of note is a decision by the U.S. House not to adopt a plan that would ban abortions in the U.S. based on the gender of the infant. And at the same time, the pro-life activist group Live Action, under the direction of recent UCLA graduate Lila Rose, has documented through multiple undercover videos the willingness on the part of abortionists to do exactly that – abort an infant simply because she is female.
Garrow told WND he’s given the project over the God, and the additional programs will move forward “when He shows the way.”
He said there needs to be a massive commitment on the part of decision-makers, leaders and others to prevent gendercide – the killing of infants because of their gender – from gaining a bigger foothold around the globe.
“I’m blaming the leadership of the whole world community,” he said. “In fact, it really has become a war against women.”
It was one day in 2000 when Garrow found his assistant weeping. The woman explained her sister’s husband was insisting the couple’s newborn daughter be smothered to make way for a son, because of the communist regime’s one-child policy.
Garrow’s personal connections and funds made it possible for the infant to be placed with an adoptive couple.
He said such an evil perpetrated on one side of the earth undoubtedly will infect other parts.
“The majority of people don’t realize the effect of what the Chinese are doing in forcing abortions, sterilizations, and infanticide has a cascading effect on the rest of the world.”
He said it’s the most aggressive “war on women” he’s ever seen.
He cited a recent report in the Journal of Medical Ethics that suggested parents should be allowed to kill children up to about age 2, because “both a fetus and a newborn certainly are human beings and potential persons, but neither is a ‘person’ in the sense of ‘subject of a moral right to life.’”
“We have become anesthetized to the notion of murder, and so cowed into not responding to women’s rights issues that we can’t even stand up when it’s clearly murder,” Garrow told WND.
He said the slippery slope starts when people abandon the Bible’s standards.
“The same moral base that allowed abortion eventually leads to euthanasia, infanticide and eugenics,” he warned. “The people who formed the nation [believed] that blacks were barely above monkeys, so should we do away with them?”
For his efforts in “human trafficking,” Garrow was nominated for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, which eventually was won by Barack Obama.
The program offers participants a number of ways to contribute to the expenses of saving baby girls.
