TEL AVIV – A senior Israeli military official is on his way to Cairo to discuss a cease-fire over the conflict in Gaza, according to an informed Egyptian official speaking to WND.
Egypt has been leading an intense effort to reach a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Until now, Israel was not directly involved in the Egyptian efforts.
Hamas’ chief Khelad Meshal and senior Hamas leader Moussa Abu Marzuk were leading the truce talks from the Hamas side.
According to sources within Hamas, the Gazan group is demanding a complete end to Israel’s naval and land blockade of the Gaza Strip as a precondition for any truce.
That condition may be a deal breaker for Israel, which says it maintains the blockade to ensure against weapons smuggling into the Palestinian enclave.
Hamas is also asking for an internationally-backed guarantee against further Israeli strikes inside the Gaza Strip.
