Conservative talk-radio host Laura Ingraham has announced that she’s off the air – for a brief period anyway.
“After more than nine years with the distributor Talk Radio Network, I decided it was time to move on. After much thought and reflection, I have decided to pursue my first loves – modern dance and the xylophone. In the highly unlikely event that these efforts do not prove fruitful, I intend to return to radio,” she said in an announcement posted on her website.
“Seriously – to the more than 300 stations that carry the Laura Ingraham Show and to all my loyal listeners, I feel the time is right to expand and retool my radio program and to explore other syndication options, which I am now actively pursuing. During this brief hiatus, my team and I will continue to deliver thought-provoking and entertaining analysis via my website lauraingraham.com and twitter @IngrahamAngle. And of course, I’ll be doing my regular appearances on Fox News. I anticipate making an announcement concerning the show in the near future. Stay tuned!”
There has been no comment available from TRN concerning Ingraham.
Ingraham is the second major personality to move away from TRN recently.
“The Savage Nation,” which formerly aired on TRN from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday, now is airing from 9 p.m. to midnight, Eastern, via Cumulus Media Networks.
“The later show is better for a guy like me who likes to tell stories and develop an idea,” Savage told WND.
He cited surveys showing the late-night audience listens longer and is generally more affluent. The listeners also tend to be people who work regular hours and can’t listen to daytime talk radio.
At Politico, Dylan Byers reported there was no information yet where Ingraham’s show would land. She has an estimated 5.75 million listeners weekly.
Just hours earlier, Ingraham posted a note about the American debt.
“The truth is hard to come by in politics – especially Washington politics. The WSJ tells the horrifying truth today about the real debt hanging over our heads in America. Sixteen trillion is a drop in the bucket. Leading the obfuscation with masterful precision is Barack Obama. After more than a year of doing next to nothing to avert our ongoing economic crisis, he is grandstanding on fiscal cliff negotiations. With the election over, he and his team are warning that the sky will fall if we don’t raise taxes on the ‘rich,'” she wrote.
“The holiday season will be cancelled! People will stop shopping! Forget the Grinch. The new Christmas special will be: ‘The Republicans Who Stole Christmas’! They’re even stealing the last can of ‘Who Hash.’ The president and his team are so predictable. They did the same before they jammed through Obamacare – ‘pass this or the recovery will get dragged down and your premiums will skyrocket!’ And remember the rhetoric before the ‘stimulus’? ‘Vote for the stimulus or we’ll slip back into a depression!’ Conservatives should reject this overheated hype – call it out for what it is. Negotiations should be done maturely, deliberately and not conducted behind closed doors. Let the sunshine in so the people can see for themselves what these pols stand for, who the real leaders are. The challenges facing America are too serious for another bum’s rush by President Obama and the fools on the Hill.”
Ingraham is a regular Fox News contributor and the principal substitute host on ‘The O’Reilly Factor.” She is the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of five books: “The Hillary Trap,” “Shut Up & Sing,” “Power to the People,” “The Obama Diaries” and “Of Thee I Zing: America’s Cultural Decline from Muffin Tops to Body Shots.”
She’s a former litigator and Supreme Court law clerk, a graduate of University of Virginia School of law and Dartmouth College, and lives in Washington.
