On Jan. 21, 2013, the chief justice of the United States Supreme Court will swear into office Barack Obama, Barry Soetoro, or whomever the current occupant is, for another four-year term of office. Mr. Roberts will do this despite Obama’s admission (on the birth certificate the White House has posted on its website) that he is not a natural-born citizen and is therefore ineligible to hold the office of president.
The Supreme Court doesn’t care. Congress doesn’t care. The FBI doesn’t care. The Secret Service doesn’t care. The Cabinet heads don’t care. The bureaucrats don’t care. And certainly the mainlining press don’t care. And it doesn’t bother the government service and trade unions one little bit.
It didn’t bother Gen. David Petraeus, who thought his infidelity secret was safe with the Chicago mob, in return for his Benghazi testimony to Congress. And so it was – until after the election. Then it was time for the bus to move on. Unfortunately for the general, this time he was not on the bus, but underneath it.
Gen. John Allen must still have something of use to the Chicago mob. That’s because he hasn’t been kicked off the bus yet. Watch those steep roads and tight turns in Afghanistan, General. Someone could fall off the bus, roll under a wheel, and nobody would ever know.
The glitteratzi who threw extravagant parties for the military brass show just how down far the rot has proceeded in our nation. They owe banks millions of dollars on property deals that they haven’t paid. “We just don’t have the money. We spent it all on caterers and bartenders during our health, morale and welfare parties for four-star generals.” Petraeus was said to have arrived at one such event escorted by a 23-man police motorcade. Surely there can’t be that many angry husbands in town?
This summer I attended a funeral for a friend’s young son. Full military honors; most of the small town turned out to support the family. He was killed by an insurgent who had signed up with the Afghan police.
Now I find myself wondering: What if Gen. Allen, who commanded the forces there, had been running the war – instead of tapping out some of the reported 20 to 30 thousand love letters he is credited with emailing to a bankrupt socialite who can find the money for parties and lawyers, but can’t pay the real estate mortgage?
Today I note that there are more anti-austerity union strikes in Europe. The unions have organized the strikes and protests. Here’s the plan the unions have presented as the cure for Europe’s habit of living on perpetually borrowed money (via the Guardian newspaper):
- Economic governance at the service of sustainable growth and quality jobs.
- Economic and social justice through redistribution policies, taxation and social protection.
- Employment guarantees for young people.
- An ambitious European industrial policy steered towards a green, low-carbon economy and forward-looking sectors with employment opportunities and growth.
- A more intense fight against social and wage dumping.
- Pooling of debt through Euro-bonds.
- Effective implementation of a financial transaction tax to tackle speculation and enable investment policies.
- Harmonization of the tax base with a minimum rate for companies across Europe.
- A determined effort to fight tax evasion and fraud.
- Respect for collective bargaining and social dialogue.
- Respect for fundamental social and trade union rights.
I note with interest that our own unions are clamoring for a seat at the table for the fiscal-cliff talks. I wonder what they are going to ask for?
Many people prayed for a better outcome for America in this election. Mitt Romeny was not a perfect candidate. He did, however, present a stark choice in both character and competence when compared to the incumbent. America chose to continue on along its present course.
This has happened before in history. Her is one account:
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart though thou knewest all this, (23) but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of His house before thee, and thou and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines have drunk wine from them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not nor hear nor know. And the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified.
24 Then was the part of the hand sent from Him, and this writing was written. (25) And this is the writing that was written: Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing. Mene: God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27 Tekel: Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28 Peres: Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
