A good guy with a gun

• It's an outrageous idea – we need to get rid of guns, period, not bring them around our kids
• It would turn school personnel into objects of fear
• Greater access to mental health services, bullying prevention and meaningful action on gun control — this is where we need to focus our efforts
• Lawmakers at every level of government should dismiss this dangerous idea
• I'd be concerned about accidental discharges causing injury to students
• Confronting a shooter on a crowded campus requires special skills that a classroom teacher is unlikely to have
• Schools cannot afford to take on the added liability arising from a student being accidentally shot or an armed teacher failing to adequately protect
• I like the idea of hiring police or trained security personnel, but I'm not sold on teachers and staff carrying guns
• Having armed guards on campus is a good idea, but how are we going to pay for it?
• Having teachers and staff armed with their own handguns would avoid the high cost of hiring guards or police officers
• People opposed to this idea will have blood on their hands the next time a shooting occurs
• If you could turn back the clock, and if you would put a gun in the hand of the Sandy Hook principal as Lanza entered the school, you have to support this
• With the right safeguards, I'd support this
• It will give educators and their students a fighting chance and will serve as a deterrent
