Danny Glover: 2nd Amendment aimed at slaves

Actor Danny Glover says it was slave-owners fearful of being attacked, or being targeted by Indian uprisings, who originated the idea of the Second Amendment.
The comments were revealed by CampusReform.org, which posted a video (above) of the recent statements by the longtime leftist actor during an appearance at Texas A&M.
“I don’t know if you know the genesis of the right to bear arms,” Glover told the students. “The Second Amendment comes from the right to protect themselves from slave revolts, and from uprisings by Native Americans.”
He continued, “A revolt from people who were stolen from their land, or revolt from people whose land was stolen from, that’s what the genesis of the Second Amendment is.”
Glover long has advocated publicly for leftist and socialist causes. In fact, bloggers once defended him by describing him as “a pretty hardcore Hollywood leftist” and explaining he “hangs out with Hugo Chavez, visits Cuba, talks a lot about American misdeeds in Central America…”
Most movie fans know him for “Lethal Weapon” and “Angels in the Outfield.”
He was talking to students at an event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Campus Reform followed up: “Director of Texas A&M’s Memorial Student Center, Luke Altendorf, told Campus Reform on Friday that the university was unaware of Glover’s talking points prior to his speech.”
“I had no idea, we really didn’t know that topic was coming up,” he said. “Someone was asking a question about activism. I think that’s where some of that came from.”
He wouldn’t reveal to Campus Reform what the school paid Glover, but previous speakers at the event, such as Harry Belafonte and Angela Davis, have been given $25,000, Campus Reform said.
“We didn’t feel those speakers you are referring to are bad decisions on these topics because we want to foster discussion,” he said.
Campus Reform explained the video was from members of the Texas Aggie Conservatives.
Chairman Eric Schroeder said, “It should be a time for real reflection and respect. Instead, the university pushes a political agenda.”
He questioned when the university would be willing to sponsor a speaker who would balance the conversation from the conservative perspective, Campus Reform reported.
“We expect President [Bowen] Loftin to stand by his commitment to diversity and fully support our efforts to bring in a conservative speaker to provide an alternative to Mr. Glover’s far left message,” Schroeder said.
Glover also rambled about global warming, development, the “fragile Mother Earth” and the Occupy movement
Some online resources list the reasons for the Second Amendment as being a desire to organize a militia, participating in law enforcement, deterring a tyrannical government, repelling invasions and even suppressing slave revolts. But the source cited for the last was Mother Jones.
The Second Amendment was adopted with the other parts of the Bill of Rights in December 1791, 15 years after the fight for independence began.
