(TCPalm) The state has found “staff inexperience” and “inadequate procedures” at the county elections office compounded Election Day issues and resulted in additional technical and procedural errors.

Secretary of State Ken Detzner’s office released its Election Observation Report for the county on Friday, spurred by the elections office’s voting tabulation problems in the Nov. 6 general election. Observers assigned by Detzner found at least four incidents of memory card failures, ballot scanning errors during retabulation and an early voting recount, missing logs for ballot accounting and incomplete official results.

“Although the supervisor’s office had prepared for a first time multi-card ballot election, the office did not anticipate the complexity of technical malfunctions nor have a well-defined contingency plan in the event of such issues occurring,” the report states.
