(WASHINGTON TIMES) President Obama said Monday that opponents of gun-control legislation are fanning unfounded fears that the government is going to take away guns as proposals on how to curb gun violence take shape.

“Those who oppose any kind of common-sense measures have a pretty good way of ginning up fear on the part of gun owners,” the president said in a White House press conference. “It’s obviously good for business.”

Twenty children and six adults were shot to death last month at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and gun sales since the shooting have soared in some places, with people flocking to private gun shows as well.
