(South Florida Sun-Sentinel) Ducks are a fact of life for anyone who lives near ponds, lakes and canals in South Florida.

But it’s the gunk they leave behind that has one seniors-only condo community in an uproar, with some of its members demanding that Sunrise impose an all-out ban on duck feeding to protect residents’ health and safety.

Sunrise allows the feeding of ducks, but it must take place within 15 feet of the water. Feeding outside that zone can lead to fines of $100 to $250 a day.

“Ducks will do what ducks do. You step in it, you smell it,” said Frieda Raucher, who showed up at City Hall on Tuesday armed with evidence — 29 photos, including 15 of duck poop — and an entourage of neighbors fuming over the mess.
