Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is sure to be heard a lot more in the coming days as he’s purchased a 50-state commercial campaign on the No. 1 radio show in America, hosted by Rush Limbaugh.
“It’s actually 57 states, but who’s counting?” joked Limbaugh today, poking fun at Barack Obama’s flub during the 2008 campaign when the then-Illinois senator said he had campaigned in 57 states and still had a few more to go.
“It doesn’t mean that we’ve endorsed Herman Cain, and it doesn’t mean that we’re not gonna talk about anybody else,” Limbaugh stressed. “[Mitt] Romney can buy some time. Rick Perry can buy some time if they wish. I just don’t want anybody to think here that the fact that one of the candidates has purchased time means that we have endorsed or haven’t. Well, of course I haven’t. I haven’t endorsed anybody yet.”
He added: “We’re just business people here and candidate Cain said, ‘We want to buy some time on your program.’ We said, ‘Fine and dandy.’”
Limbaugh played one of Cain’s ads to give listeners a sample of what they’d be hearing:
“Nine-nine-nine means jobs, jobs, jobs. I’m Herman Cain, a candidate for president, and I approve this message, but Obama doesn’t. My 9-9-9 plan creates 6 million jobs. Obama doesn’t want you to know because he doesn’t want me to win. Go to 999MeansJobs.com and help me defeat Obama.”
The campain said the ad can be run nationally due to an increase in fundraising numbers over the past few weeks. NBC’s Andrew Rafferty reported over the weekend that Cain’s campaign said it’s raising about $1 million a week since Oct. 1.
“Both our national and state strategies are buoyed by this ad campaign,” said Mark Block, Cain’s chief of staff.
