Grand Ole Opry star and outspoken patriot Charlie Daniels is recovering from sudden pacemaker surgery earlier this week and has some words of gratitude for his fans and his God.
“Thanks all of you so very much for your prayers and well wishes,” the country music star tweeted on Friday. “Surgery went good, pacemaker is honking, be home in a few hours. God is good.”
A representative of the 76-year-old singer explained that during a doctor visit on Monday, March 25, Daniels was diagnosed with a mild case of pneumonia and admitted to a Nashville hospital for a series of routine tests. The tests revealed that a pacemaker was needed to regulate his heart rate.
Daniels expects to be released from the hospital before the Easter holiday, and his family asked in a statement for thoughts and prayers as he recovers. He will spend the next two weeks at his home.
“I just had not been feeling well and wanted to get checked out,” says Daniels. “I am thankful the doctors found the problem and were able to implant a pacemaker to get my heart rate regulated. I am feeling so much better and looking forward to spending Easter with my family.”
