(HARTFORD COURANT) An East Hartford man who was shooting cans with a pellet gun in a yard along the route of President Obama's motorcade on Monday was ordered held on $50,000 bail after his arraignment Tuesday on threatening and other charges.
The sight of Joseph Stravinskas, 27, holding what appeared to be a rifle with a scope on it startled police who were stationed along Cottage Grove Road Monday afternoon for the passage of the motorcade. Obama spoke at the University of Hartford; Stravinskas was arrested as the motorcade was on the way back from the university.
Simsbury Det. Scott Sagan, who spotted the man with a gun, was assigned to a spot at Cottage Grove and Charter Avenue; police from several departments assisted Bloomfield officers along the route.
