(Sydney Telegraph) — OF all the gruesome images to come out of the Boston Marathon carnage, the most haunting shows an angular young man being pushed in a wheelchair away from the first bomb site.
Most news agencies have cropped the photo to spare viewers the full horror of the man’s injuries.
His legs are blasted to bits.
All that remains below the knee is a long, bloody bone – shorn of flesh – torn off at the ankle where his feet should be.
There is a tourniquet tied tightly around his thigh, which has saved his life from massive blood loss, and he clutches his left leg just above the bandage, his face grey and dazed, eyes fixed on the ambulance ahead.
